Measure the length and width of your bed. If you do not yet have a bed and you are trying to make a storage bed, get the typical size of the bed you want, a twin, full, lady or king. Decide how much storage space you want your bed. You can even have layers on both sides of the bed, as long as you keep the bed from the wall. Take full measurements of the areas where you would like to store.
Materials and Assembly
Decide if you want storage bed or cubes storage under your bed. Cubes can be used in a variety of ways – such as shelves, with doors or without doors. Buy enough boxes or cubes to fill up the amount of space you have previously measured. Take them home and mount them. Set the mounted drawers or cubes where the bed will be. Because boxes and cubes are not meant to take the weight of an entire bed, you need to put a plywood sheet over the top of the drawers or cubes. For beds larger than double you need two plywood sheets. See the measurements you have already made of the bed, and buy the plywood it is that size plus a 1 “overhang on all sides.
