Wrought iron patio furniture is a great, functional way to add a retro or art deco look to your patio. It will also not break, unless some natural catastrophe occurs, and it is maintained until the time better than wood or plastic, with the proper finish. Just like anything made of iron, your patio furniture can rust from time to time, and if left unchecked, this rust could damage the furniture. However, it is quite easy to perform the maintenance of wrought iron garden furniture.

Remove any loose flakes of paint with a paint scraper and a wire brush. Keep scraping and brushing up any piece of paint that is even something loose has been removed. Apply a commercial rust remover to the rusted areas on your furniture, and allow the coating to dry according to the bottle manufacturer’s instructions. Sand the rust remover off the furniture.

Using the brush, apply a layer of anti-rust primer to all exposed areas that have just been scraped and sanded. It is not necessary to apply primer to the areas where they will come out of the old paint. If the old paint is still firmly attached, it makes a lower layer as good as a primer. Apply a second coat of primer once the first has dried.
