Tea set – Many people are concerned about toxic chemicals in commercial silver polishes. To make sure that your silver tea set is safe to drink from, try cleaning with household products. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages. The cleaning method must be determined by the very tarnished and delicate way it is the whole, and the value is put into it.

You can add water to baking soda to form a thick paste. Apply with a sponge or soft cloth. Do not use a toothbrush. Even a soft toothbrush is likely to scratch the silver. Rub, rinse and polish dry with another soft cloth. Baking soda is a soft abrasive, which can cut through heavy tarnish. Be careful or use another method if your tea set is very expensive, delicate, or has a sentimental value, as this method can leave scratches.

Place a small sheet of aluminum foil on the bottom of a sink or large pot. Add enough water to completely cover the silver tea set. Add boiling water either to the sink or fill the pot with water, place on the stove and bring to a boil. Add a mixture of 2 tablespoons, baking soda and 2 tbsp. When the sodium and salt have dissolved, immerse the pieces of silver in the water. To tarnish heavy, allow silver to soak for up to 5 minutes. Remove, rinse with clean water, and rub gently with a soft cloth. This process works by pulling sulfur, a main component of tarnish, out of its silver and transferring it to aluminum foil.
