The Adirondack rocking chair was invented in 1903 in the small town north of Newport State Westport by a man named Thomas Lee. Today the Adirondack chair is found throughout the United States.

Thomas Lee was on vacation in Westport in a house called Stony Faces, which apparently does not have enough patio furniture for his family. He started experimenting with designs and created the Adirondack chair. Its design was made entirely of wood with a tilted back seat and open arms. Lee showed his design to carpenter Harry Bunnell, who began producing the chairs. Bunnell secretly applies a patent for the “Westport chair” in 1905.

The only thing better than sitting on the lawn enjoying a beautiful sunny day is the ability to rock while doing it. Instead of dragging your heavy, old rocking chair that grandma gave you, look for a comfortable lawn version of a rocking chair. Some of them can even be folded and stored in the car or in the garage. The Adirondack style of garden chair is one of the most commonly seen pieces of outdoor furniture. Just putting an Adirondack chair in your yard or patio can help create a more permanent and welcoming outdoor environment. Wooden chairs come in many styles, including rocker styles.
